MALAYSIA/SINGAPORE: Nasdaq-listed Akamai Technologies, Inc. has teamed up with AirAsia Bhd to power its website www.airasia.com which receives an average of one million unique visitors a month.

The low-cost airline said on May 4 it was seeking to strengthen its market share in the aviation industry and the 10-year partnership would see Akamai’s Dynamic Site Acceleration solution powering the website

In a joint statement, the companies said Akamai’s solutions delivered website performance up to five times faster than the origin Web infrastructure and handle the specific requirements of dynamically-generated content— without a costly hardware build out.

The partnership would enable AirAsia to leverage on Akamai’s globally-distributed delivery network of 42,000 secure servers deployed in 70 countries.

The move would enable AirAsia to provide a premium online experience to their customers with enhanced site speed and performance.

AirAsia group CEO Datuk Seri Tony Fernandes said this strategic partnership would enable AirAsia to keep up its momentum in enhancing its market share.

“AirAsia’s website is highly popular and enjoys an average of one million unique visitors a month. With our promotional deals and free-seat regional campaigns, the number of hits increases dramatically, so we need a solution to ensure our guests have a speedier, more reliable and uninterrupted online experience on airasia.com,” he said.

Akamai Technologies managing director, Asia Pacific, Stuart Spiteri said Akamai had the expertise to help accelerate AirAsia’s dynamic online content they depended on to build market share and enhance their brand.
