KUALA LUMPUR: Asia-Pacific’s payment solutions provider GHL Systems Bhd has introduced Malaysia’s first portable GPRS (general packet radio service) payment terminal with biometric capabilities.

In a statement yesterday, GHL Systems said this followed its appointment as Ingenico International’s centre of excellence for biometric technology, as well as the distributor of Ingenico’s Bio POS terminal in Malaysia.

In addition, GHL Systems has also obtained approval from the National Registration Department to access documentation and utilise the memory mapping function for MyKad identification cards.

GHL Systems’ chief operating officer Chan Chun Fee said the solution effectively combined its expertise in smartcard or chip-based payment solutions with biometric authentication for higher-level security.

Ingenico’s regional director for Southeast Asia Christian Mugnier said: “Malaysia has been a keen adopter of innovative technologies, and the latest introduction of this GPRS-enabled portable biometric-cum-payment terminal solution demonstrates that the market is ready for higher value-added payment solutions for greater efficiency.”
