KUALA LUMPUR: Brewer Guinness Anchor Bhd's net profit declined 43.5% to RM26.75 million in the first quarter ended September 2009 (1Q2009) from RM47.32 million a year earlier due to less demand for its malt liquor beverages during the difficult economic conditions.

The company's revenue fell 17.7% to RM300.97 million from RM365.8 million, the company told the exchange today. Guinness said it would continue to strengthen its brand equity, grow its market share, and improve operational efficiency to boost earnings.

"Industry margin has tightened due to intense market competition," the company said in the statement.
