KUALA LUMPUR: Share prices on Bursa Malaysia opened mixed in early trading Monday following a mixed set of leads from foreign markets, a dealer said.

At 9.17am, the benchmark FBM KLCI was 1.25 points lower at 1,258.75 after opening at 1,259.96.

The dealer said the local bourse's performance was bearish despite a positive lead from Wall Street amid caution on the economic outlook.

The dealer, however, said the losses were limited due to some buying on selected blue chips and plantation-based stocks.

The FBM Emas Index lost 3.07 points to 8,390.85 and the FBM Top 100 Index declined 2.74 points to 8,206.56. However, the FBM70 gained 19.29 points to 8,125.16 and the FBM Ace was 22.56 points higher at 4,262.76.

The Plantation Index rose 9.38 points to 8,256.28 but the Finance Index eased 11.58 points to 10,878.07 while the Industrial Index dipped 8.74 points to 2,662.07.

Gainers led losers by 78 to 66 while 76 counters were unchanged and 1,070 others untraded.

A total of 37.336 million shares worth RM22.626 million changed hands.

Among the volume leaders, Affin Holdings Warrant gain 1.5 sen to 34 sen, Mithril earned one sen to 14 sen, while LCL declined four sen to 18 sen.

For the heavyweights, Sime Darby lost five sen to RM8.90, Maybank and Maxis were unchanged at RM6.76 and RM5.37, respectively, while CIMB added two sen to RM12.86. — Bernama
