Flash November IPI down 1.3% on-yr, slides 6% on-month

KUALA LUMPUR : The industrial production index (IPI) in November 2009 fell 1.3% from a year ago and when compared with the preceding month of October, it slid 6%  the Statistics Department said.

The department said on Monday, Jan 11 the IPI in October 2009 was revised to a positive 0.9% year-on-year.

"The decline in November 2009 was the result in the drop of the mining index (7.4%). However, the index of manufacturing and electricity posted an increase of 0.9% and 5.6% respectively.

"Month-on-month, the IPI decreased 6.0%. The cumulative index for the period of January-November 2009 declined 9.0% as against the same period in 2008," it said.
