No recall issue, UMW Toyota assures

KUALA LUMPUR: Toyota and Lexus models sold by UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd are not affected by the design fault that necessitated the recall of certain Toyota cars in the US, company president Kuah Kock-Heng said.

He said the company had received confirmation on the matter from its principal, Toyota Motor Corp of Japan.

Toyota US said on Jan 21, it was recalling 2.3 million vehicles involving eight models as a safety precaution due a design fault on the accelerator pedal.

“There is no cause for concern on this matter as our car components, design, suppliers and the like are different from that of the US,” said Kuah at the opening of Wing Hin Automobile’s upgraded sales, services and spare parts (3S) centre in Cheras Selatan today.

He said the company had received inquiries from customers on the matter and had cleared their doubts.

Toyota-authorised genuine-parts dealer Wing Hin Automobile has invested RM39 million to upgrade its after-sales facility, which also features a body and paint centre.

“With an increase trend in vehicle sales, there is also a corresponding rise in demand for after-sales [service], including body and paint repairs,” said Wing Hin Automobile's director William Loh.

“Six years ago we set up our very first 3S centre with only 15 service bays and we did well. Thus, we have confidence in the brand and our services that this huge investment will also result in great returns,” said Loh.
