KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Bhd's (TM) Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) offering will include 22 channels, to be bundled in their triple-play offering under their high-speed broadband (HSBB).
"In addition, we will also be making a news-on-demand feature, so viewers can watch the news at their convenience," said TM consumer vice-president Jeremy Kung at the signing ceremony between TM and the 20 content providers on Monday, March 22.
He added TM has signed up with over 30 providers to date, and plans to add more providers. The 22 channels are a combination of lifestlye channels, according to Kung. The channels will include six local free-to-air channels which are TV1, TV2, TV3, ntv7, 8tv, and TV9.
Other channels include Travel Channel International, Star Chinese Movies 2, FTV HD, and Channel [V] Taiwan. In addition, the IPTV service will also carry exclusive interactive channels such as Malaysian History, Malaysian Football, Tourism and Games.
TM's highly-anticipated HSBB, which is touted to give users download speeds of up to 10 megabytes per second, is slated to be launched on Wednesday.
The service will be bundled in a triple-play package, which will include high speed internet access, IPTV and voice-over-Internet protocol (VoIP).
To date, trials have been conducted at Bangsar, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Subang Jaya and Shah Alam.
The HSBB is expected to be rolled out to Kepong, Batu, Wangsa Maju, Segambut, Damansara, Titiwangsa, Cheras, Seputih (Kuala Lumpur), Petaling Jaya, Serdang, Puchong, Putrajaya, Damansara, Cyberjaya, the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Klang, Selayang, and Ampang by year end, said Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Communications Commission (MCMC) chairman Tan Sri Khalid Ramli in earlier reports.
By 2011, the whole of the Klang Valley and outlying areas such as Bandar Tun Razak, Sungai Besi, Gombak and Kajang are expected to enjoy HSBB coverage.
