Khazanah: Buyers for Pos Malaysia not finalised yet

KUALA LUMPUR: Buyers for Pos Malaysia Bhd have not been determined conclusively, although Khazanah Nasional has received some indications of interests.

Khazanah Nasional managing director Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar said on Wednesday, March 31, the divestment of its 32.2% stake in Pos Malaysia would be undertaken in two stages, with the first involving some changes to be made in the regulatory structure for government-owned land currently allocated for postal infrastructure.

He said the changes depended on the government and Khazanah would only conduct a bidding process to select the controlling shareholders in the second stage.

"We can commit three to six months to select the bidders. I hope it will be completed by the end of the year, but it is dependent on the regulatory changes in stage one first," he told reporters during the Invest Malaysia 2010 conference here today.

Azman said, while a key requirement for qualifying bids is that they are Malaysian-led, merit would also be given to the quality of strategic and technical partners that included foreign parties.

"We want partners that know their stuff," he added.
