KUALA LUMPUR: Industrial packaging company Scientex Bhd reported lower year-on-year quarterly earnings for its 3QFY09 ended April 30 owing to its weakened exports, the company said on June 16.

It reported a net profit of RM9.99 million, down 3% from RM10.31 million a year earlier, while revenue fell 31% to RM113.74 million from RM165.59 million. No dividend was declared.

Year to-date (YTD), Scientex' earnings was down 11.5% to RM23.09 million from RM26.09 million a year earlier, while revenue fell 23.3% to RM375 million from RM489 million.

Scientex said it was "cautiously optimistic" that results would improve in the second half (2H) of the current fiscal year after sales figures rebounded in its third quarter.
