KUALA LUMPUR: JCY International Bhd's net profit rose 38% to RM65.88 million in its second quarter (2Q) ended March 31, 2010 from RM54.4 million a year earlier as demand picked up following the recovery of the hard-disk drive (HDD) industry.

Revenue and profit before tax (PBT) grew 58.7% and 21.7% to RM549.7 million and RM66.2 million from a year earlier, while earnings per share rose to 3.22 sen from 2.66 sen.

It declared an interim dividend of 3.91 sen.

"This significant increases in the revenue and PBT were mainly due to the increase in the overall demand from our customers as a result of the recovery of the HDD business," it said.

JCY, which makes mechanical components for the HHD industry, said the HDD market continued to enjoy exceptional growth due to healthy demand from both personal computer and other electronic consumer markets.

For the first half, net profit rose 83% to RM143.34 million from RM78.4 million a year earlier, while revenue climbed 39% to RM1.07 billion from RM776.2 million.
