KUALA LUMPUR: Asian markets, including Bursa Malaysia opened higher on Friday, July 23 after the firmer overnight close on Wall Street.
The major indices on Wall Street closed between 2% and 2.7% higher, reversing losses from a day earlier after testimony by Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke soured investors on the economic outlook.
The Dow Jones industrial average gained 201.77 points, or 1.99%, to 10,322.30. The Standard & Poor's 500 added 24.08 points, or 2.25, to 1,093.67. The Nasdaq Composite rose 58.56 points, or 2.68%, to 2,245.89.
At Bursa Malaysia, the FBM KLCI added 6.38 points to 1,342.43 at 9.05am.
Among the early gainers, SEG International added 18 sen to RM2.56, Top Glove rose 13 sen to RM6.88, Ireka and Supermax up 12 sen each to 87 sen and RM6.31 respectively, and Cocoaland up nine sen to RM2.94.
Other gainers included BHIC and UEM Land.
