KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Kiara PROPERTIES [] Sdn Bhd (BKP) prides itself in going beyond the usual by providing value-added services to its homeowners.

Yesterday, the lifestyle property developer launched a guide to some of the best food available in the Klang Valley titled 33 Food Hotspots: Kuala Lumpur's Ultimate Food Guide, published in partnership with The Edge Communications Sdn Bhd and Bosch Siemens Home Appliances Group (BSH). The launch was held at the BKP Gallery in Mont' Kiara.

BKP group managing director N K Tong said: "BKP is constantly finding innovative ways to reward and enrich its homeowners' well-being and lifestyles."

Conducive homes go hand-in-hand with savoury food and publishing a guide on a subject related to one of BKP customers' favourite pastimes just made sense, said the developer. What started as a project meant solely for BKP's homeowners was expanded to reach a wider audience, in the process roping in two other partners, The Edge Communications and BSH.

"The three companies share similar values and passion for a food guide that serves as an extension of one of their favourite pastimes: eating out," Tong said. "Since a lot of Malaysians are passionate about exotic local food and don't mind travelling to all corners of the Klang Valley just to sample the numerous food offerings that arouse their discerning taste buds, the three organisations see the value of publishing it as one of the key aspects of their customer service programme."

"I applaud BKP for its marketing initiatives that go beyond the sale of homes," said Ho Kay Tat, managing director of The Edge Communications. "There are many food guides out in the market but many of them are very specific, such as fine dining food guides, hawker food guides and so on. This one has everything in one, and as a guidebook, it is very comprehensive, very detailed."

"It sounded interesting when BKP sounded the idea of a food guide to us," said Herbert Tang, senior manager for sales of BSH, which provides appliances to BKP's property developments. "We thought it was ambitious and aspiring and immediately agreed to participate."

Compiled by Lim Siang Jin and a team of food writers, the hardcover tome features 300 eateries that cover an extensive selection of food, from specialty dishes from the streets, hawker stalls and food courts to those from restaurants and five-star hotel F&B outlets. The book is divided into 33 geographical areas with maps attached and the eateries are laid out in alphabetical order in an easy-to-read vertical format, complete with full-colour photos of the eatery and dishes.

All details you need about a KL eatery such as address, contact number, business hours and GPS coordinates are listed alongside a snappy description of the place, the cuisine it serves (with a thumbs-up sign to indicate a must-try dish, whether or not it is halal, mode of payment, price of a meal and parking conditions. At the bottom of each page is a unique rating feature which allows readers to pen in their experiences according to service, value for money, ambience, food quality and overall observations.

Ten specially commissioned recipes make up the last section of the book to help readers embark on their own culinary journey at home.

It's a handy book that can be kept in the car for individuals or families to refer to.

33 Food Hotspots: Kuala Lumpur's Ultimate Food Guide is priced at RM60 and is available at all leading bookstores in Malaysia. From now until the end of August, readers can purchase the book at the promotional launch price of RM48.
