KUALA LUMPUR: Proton Holdings Bhd expects to sell more than 60 units of the Lotus Evora when the model is introduced to the Malaysian market towards year-end, its chairman Datuk Mohd Nadzmi Salleh said.

Lotus would study the market for sports cars before setting the price for the model in Malaysia, said Nadzmi, adding that currently Evora was only available in the European market.

Evora, Lotus’ first all-new car since the launch of Elise 15 years ago, features a 2+2 seating configuration and a 3.5-litre V6 engine that can develop 276bhp. The car has a top speed of 160mph, with fuel consumption rated at 32.5mpg.

UK-based carmaker Lotus Group International is wholly owned by Proton, which launched yesterday the Lotus Showcase 2009 in Kuala Lumpur aimed at raising local awareness of the brand to drive sales.

Only the Elise S, Exige S and Europa S models were featured at the showcase. The cars carry a  price tag of between RM238,600 and RM338,800 on the road without insurance and road tax.

Lotus produces about 3,200 cars each year. There are only 150 units of the marque in Malaysia.
