KUALA LUMPUR: Even though all technical issues have been cleared for the Port Klang Authority to release the controversial Port Klang Free Zone report, the PKA board meeting had on May 21 resolved that PKA chairman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng cannot make the report public since it is now being deliberated in Cabinet.

Lee said he now no longer has the power to make public the report.

On the issue of letter of indemnity that PwC had sought from PKA, he said it had also been resolved and that PKA would issue that letter when releasing the report.

"The opinion from Skrine is that we can give the letter of indemnity because in the event PwC is sued, we would also be able to counter-sue PwC," said Lee.

PKA board in its one-hour meeting also accepted general manager Lim Thian Shiang's resignation. Lim's letter dated May 7 stated personal reasons for the resignation.

Lee also said PKA would give its fullest cooperation to Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for any investigation on PKFZ.

"I want to quote what Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat has said. He said he will direct PKA, the board and all officers to open our books to MACC if ever they come in.

"They came in before and if they come in again, we will give our fullest cooperation to MACC if they want to investigate. It is a directive from the minister of transport," said Lee.
