We filtered our search through industries and professions, from the corporate world to the arts for prominent fathers and their established sons to help convey the different dynamics of this particular relationship. The first to confirm was Datuk Mohd Zaid Ibrahim, founder of premier law firm Zaid Ibrahim & Co and politician - former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, and his son, Ezra Mohd Zaid, director of ZI Publications, which publishes both fiction and non-fiction books in Malay and English.

Then there was Jose Thomas, one of the foremost innovators of the Malaysian jazz scene, and his son, award-winning percussionist John Ashley Thomas, who is also recognised as one of Malaysia's top jazz musicians. The final father-son pair was Tan Sri Khoo Kay Kim, renowned historian and Professor Emeritus at Universiti of Malaya, and Eddin Khoo, a journalist, poet and traditional arts activist.

The cover story was done in collaboration with L'Oreal Malaysia at Groove Junction Bistro & Cafe in Sri Hartamas. The full interview appears in Options, the lifestyle pullout of The Edge Malaysia, on 22 June 2009.
