KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 27): HSBC Bank Malaysia Bhd has appointed its current chief financial officer Baldev Singh as its executive director with immediate effect.

In a statement Friday, the bank said the appointment followed Baldev’s 27 years of service with the bank, adding that he was the most senior member of the top team at HSBC Bank Malaysia.

“Given the various senior positions held throughout his tenure, Baldev is extremely well versed with the local financial landscape and has been involved in the evolution of HSBC’s business in Malaysia.

“Baldev has been instrumental in driving and implementing numerous key initiatives for HSBC Bank Malaysia,” it said.

The bank said Baldev graduated from University Malaya with a Bachelor in Economics (Honours), majoring in Accounting, in 1974, and is a Fellow of the Malaysian Institute of Tax.

He joined HSBC Bank Malaysia in 1992 as Financial Controller and was later appointed as Chief Financial Officer in 1997, a position he has held to date, it said.

Baldev started his career with the Inland Revenue Board and then moved on to one of the Big Four Accounting Firms, it said.

He joined the HSBC Malaysian Operations as a Tax Advisor in 1983 and served in both Human Resources and Finance, said the bank.
