Kancils to give out gold awards for 10 categories

THIS year’s Kancil Awards will see the overall Best of Show Golden Kancil being dropped. Instead, each winner from 10 categories will receive a Best of Show Golden Kancil.

The change comes about as part of the Kancil Awards committee’s efforts to emulate prestigious international advertising awards such as the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival which recognises the best campaign in each category.

“It’s the view of the leading creatives that each discipline is unique and should be awarded individually. This year, we will also assemble what is probably the largest panel of local jurors, as we do have a large enough pool of good talent,” said SP Lee, jury chairman of the Kancil Awards 2009. Lee is also the managing director and executive creative director of Dentsu Malaysia.

According to Ng Chiew Ping, chairman of the Kancil Awards 2009 committee and executive vice-president of TBWA-ISC/Malaysia, the awards, organised by the Association of Accredited Advertising Agents Malaysia (4As) to recognise Malaysian creative excellence in the advertising industry, have been a vital part of the local industry for over 30 years.

“We want to continue to improve this annual event,” said Ng.

The Kancil awards will be held on Oct 30 at the Sime Darby Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur. The entry fee for the Kancils is RM200 per entry. A penalty fee of RM200 will be charged for late submissions after Sept 4. To qualify, entries must be published, shown or aired in Malaysia or in international media from Oct 11, 2008 to Sept 4, 2009.
