Ng previously headed Bates’ activation department and has officially taken on the added responsibility of overseeing the advertising unit following the resignation of Nicola Tiong, who left last week. The activation department deals with events, public relations and digital advertising, among others. With 19 years of industry experience, Ng was instrumental in winning key accounts at Bates, including Honda, Mead Johnson and Starhill Gallery. “I am pleased with this move as he is well poised to lead the advertising mainstream given his broad experience in through-the-line strategic account management, planning and insights accumulated from his many years of working on various iconic brands, categories and industries,” said Bates managing director Wong Fatt Weng in a press release yesterday. Meanwhile, Naga DDB yesterday announced the promotion of Alvin Teoh and Tai Kam Leong to executive creative director and brand planning director respectively, effective Jan 1 this year. Previously Naga’s creative director, Teoh will lead the creative team and oversee strategies and development for key accounts like DiGi, Nippon Paint and other Naga DDB accounts. Tai will be responsible for managing the strategies and planning functions for Naga DDB accounts such as DiGi, Bank Islam, BWM, Perodua and Astro. The former head of planning was involved strategically in brand and marketing communications for companies such as Malaysia Airlines and Petronas. “These two individuals have definitely made a significant impact in Naga DDB. Not only are they perceptive but their talents span from producing valuable ideation (idea generation) campaigns right up to unique execution strategies, while still remaining effective and relevant to the clients’ needs,” Rosie Hong, group executive director of Foetus International, said in a March 13 press release. “As Naga DDB moves towards becoming an agency of the future, it is important to have masterminds like Tai and Alvin as associates in the agency while we work together in realising that objective,” added Hong.
