IPOH: Perak State Assembly Speaker V Sivakumar’s lawyer Augustine Anthony claimed he was harassed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Anthony said he was visited by two MACC officers from Putrajaya at his office at 4pm on March 4 and their meeting lasted about 35 minutes.

He said since no prior notice was given, the visit and questioning amounted to harassment. “It impeded my work and put my daily schedule in disarray,” he told reporters.

Anthony wondered what kind of corruption offences he could have engaged in as a result of being a lawyer to Sivakumar.

He said the service he had rendered to Sivakumar was merely to explain the 2009 MACC Act so that Sivakumar could answer questions by the commission.

“We don’t need to go through this just because we are doing our job,” said an annoyed Augustine.
