IPOH: The Perak political crisis has taken another unexpected turn as the eligibility of Judicial Commissioner (JC) Ridwan Ibrahim is now under scrutiny.

According to a Malaysian Insider report, the Ipoh-based JC was appointed on March 1, 2007 to a two-year term which ended Feb 28. It is not confirmed if Ridwan's term was extended. Unlike judges who have full tenure, judicial commissioners get two-year contracts under Article 122AB of the Federal Constitution and can sit to hear cases in the High Court.

Perak State Assembly Speaker V Sivakumar was restrained from convening any further unlawful meetings purported to be state assembly meetings after the Ipoh High Court granted an order under Section 44 of Specific Relief Act here Tuesday.

The decision was made by Ridwan after hearing representations in chambers from lawyers appearing for Sivakumar and Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.
