IPOH: Shouting erupted from the embattled Perak state legislative assembly this morning as Speaker V Sivakumar, in his first order of the day, ordered Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir and the six Barisan Nasional (BN) executive council members (exco) out of the assembly.

Sivakumar maintains that Zambry and the six exco members are still suspended from the assembly despite a Federal Court decision on April 16 lifting the suspension.

The six exco members are Zainol Fadzi Paharuddin (Sungai Manik), Datuk Ramly Zahari (Manong), Hamidah Osman (Sungai Rapat), Datuk Saarani Mohamad (Kota Tampan), Mohd Zahir Abdul Khalid (Kamunting) and Dr Mah Hang Soon (Chenderiang).

Sivakumar previously ordered Zambry and the six exco members to be suspended for 18 and 12 months respectively for contempt of the house.

The seven were suspended after they failed to answer to a Special Privileges Committee, chaired by Sivakumar, established to investigate a complaint by Canning assemblyman Wong Kah Woh that they had accepted appointments that were deemed unconstitutional.

Sivakumar today also rejected Zambry's motion of no confidence against the Speaker, on grounds that Zambry had no right to table the motion as Zambry was still suspended.

Following Zambry's attempt to table the motion to remove the Speaker, the 27 other BN representatives and 3 BN-friendly independents raised their hands in support of Zambry's motion.

Three independents Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi (Behrang), Mohd Osman Mohd Jailu (Changkat Jering) and Hee Yit Foong (Jelapang) were also ordered out by Sivakumar this morning despite a Federal Court ruling that the three assemblymen who quit their respective parties could retain their seats.

Sivakumar had repeatedly ordered Zambry, the six exco members and three independents to leave the hall, telling them the Speaker's decision was final.

Former MB Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin and Pakatan Rakyat assemblymen took their seats on the right of the Speaker, reserved for the state government, after Sivakumar announced that seating arrangements remain "status quo".

The trio's resignation threw Perak into a political deadlock as both BN and PR had 28 representatives each in the house, excluding the three.

With support from the three BN-friendly independents and BN's 28 representatives in the assembly, Sultan Azlan Shah appointed Zambry as menteri besar on Feb 6 and the six exco members on Feb 10.

Sultan Azlan Shah also ordered Nizar to tender his resignation, denying Nizar’s request to dissolve the assembly for fresh elections to resolve the assembly's political stalemate.

Meanwhile, the tension at the state assembly continues to run high with occasional shouting as Zambry and BN representatives refuse to obey Sivakumar's orders.
