KUALA LUMPUR: At least two parliamentarians have been arrested in the anti-ISA demonstrations here today, say Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) leadership.

MP for Subang R Sivarasa and PAS' Dr Mujahid Yusuf Rawa were arrested, including two committee members from the Gerakan Mansuhkan ISA (GMI) committee, Norlaila Othman and Nasyitah Mohd Nur.

In total, about 200 people were arrested. According to PR officials, approximately 15,000 people attended the anti-ISA rally.

During a press conference at PAS headquarters held after the demo, PKR leaders also revealed that top leaders including Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Hadi Awang and Lim Kit Siang came into contact with chemical tear gas.

Anwar slammed the heavy-handed tactics of the police in using excessive force on today's demonstrators.

"The action today against demonstrators was arrogant of the police and the BN government," he said.

"You can sense a pattern of continued oppression under Najib, and we can expect tougher action under him," he said.

Lim said all the provocation had come from the police. "They used force excessively on peaceful demonstrators."

"If the government really respects human rights, they would not have done this."
