PORT DICKSON: Negeri Sembilan DAP Chief Anthony Loke Siew Fook today slammed the Election Commission (EC) for removing two banners and two billboards outside the party's Bagan Pinang by-election operations centre here. According to Loke, EC officials and Port Dickson Municipal Council (MPPD) enforcement officers arrived at the DAP operations centre at about 4.30pm today to remove the billboards and banners without warning. The signages were taken down under the watchful eyes of about 50 light strike force police officers and plainclothed officers, who formed a human barricade around the enforcement officers, Loke told a press conference. "They came and tore down our banners and billboards without any warning or discussion. It is an act of provocation and intimidation," he said. Loke also ticked off the EC and MPPD for acting impartially, adding that DAP will later decide if it would lodge a police report. Both wood-mounted 8-feet by 16-feet billboards were erected outside DAP's election operations centre on the 9th mile of Jalan Pantai here. One billboard featured a doctored photograph of Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Tan Sri Mohd Isa Samad's face against a backdrop of money bills and a speech bubble with the words "Money, money, wo ai ni (Money, money, I love you)". ![]() The other billboard highlighted the death of political secretary Teoh Beng Hock, who was earlier questioned by the Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), and suspected car thief A Kugan, who died in police custody. The banners meanwhile advertised ceramah activities during campaign period, said Loke, who is Rasah member of parliament and Lobak assemblyman. Loke said the officers told him that the billboards and banners may create "racial disharmony", but Loke refuted the claim by noting that the billboard stated "Reject the cruel BN (Tolak BN zalim)". "I told them that the two issues we brought up in one of the billboards - Teoh Beng Hock and Kugan - are real facts, not something we have created," Loke said. He added that he was earlier prevented from seeking clarification from Negeri Sembilan EC director Abdul Latiff Baba, who was present, but managed to have a word with the latter after the incident. According to Loke, Abdul Latiff said EC Secretary Datuk Ngah Senik had issued the directive for the material to be removed. When contacted, Ngah denied knowledge about the incident. Loke said he had earlier challenged the EC to issue them written guidelines on what was permissible for election campaign billboards and banners, but had not received any such guidelines. Loke also claimed that several "Umno bodyguards" had shouted "Hidup BN" ("BN lives!") after the billboards were taken down.
