PETALING JAYA: The long overdue report on the controversial Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) project will be made public today. Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat stated in his blog yesterday that he has received the green light from the cabinet yesterday to release the report in its entirety. In blog www.ongteekeat.net, the MCA president said the cabinet had deliberated on the report for the third time at its weekly meeting yesterday. “I have finally obtained the green light for the report to be released in its entirety. I am very glad that the prime minister and my cabinet colleagues share my aspiration that our government should be transparent and directly deal with the issues of the day,” he said, adding that sweeping problems under the carpet is not an option. Ong, who is making good his pledge to release the report, also said the issue has been played up and used by the opposition as its political capital the past few years. “We now have to disappoint them by proving to the public that the new administration under our prime minister has nothing to hide and is prepared to reveal the truth as well as to take the appropriate action should there be any wrongdoing,” he said, adding that he has directed the Port Klang Authority (PKA) to release the report as soon as possible. When contacted, PKA chairman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng confirmed that the report would be released today at 3.30pm. Ong also said that the journey does not end with the release of the report. “We have a lot of work to do to make sure that the findings of the report are acted upon and the interests of the people are protected,” he said. The PKFZ project gained much notoriety after its initial cost of less than RM2.5 billion ballooned to RM4.6 billion.
