KUALA LUMPUR: PKR leader and former minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim today announced that he will go on a six-month leave, choosing instead to focus on formulating a common platform for Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

In a statement released today, Zaid said he had already sent a letter to the PKR secretary-general to inform the party of his intention. He is slated to submit the common policy framework to the leadership of the respective parties next week.

"A lot more work still needs to be done to provide a cohesive foundation for the coalition and this involves meeting various leaders and members of the respective parties," he said.

Zaid also refuted talks that he was involved in the leadership conundrum in Sabah and Sarawak.

"I have no interest in the internal politics of PKR, nor of any of the other parties in Pakatan Rakyat. Neither do I aspire to assume a leadership role in PKR."

The former minister urged the coalition to move beyond Barisan Nasional (BN) bashing and focus on "clearly defined policies and a united leadership" to convince Malaysians that PR is a suitable choice for the people.
