KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita MCA secretary-general Senator Heng Seai Kie said she was not aware of any plot to unseat Wanita chief Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun.
"I did not hear about it and I have no idea about the news report," said Heng who is deputy information, communication and culture minister when met at parliament lobby today.
A Chinese daily said in a front-page report that there was conspiracy among the Wanita central committee members to bring down Chew, who is in the faction opposing party president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.
Asked if the Wanita and Youth wings would also need fresh elections along with the central committee, Heng said: "Whatever it is, in solving the problem we must try to minimise it and not enlarge it to a wider scope."
On fresh elections for the central committee, she said the party had decided on a six-month period for the "greater unity" plan to be executed before holding fresh polls as the party needed time to prepare for the polls.
Meanwhile, MCA Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said he was not aware that a meeting scheduled for today would discuss the party's central working committee restructuring, and that he only knew it would discuss the election mechanism and increasing the number of delegates.
"This has nothing to do with the proposal to cancel the extraordinary general meeing, which is scheduled on Nov 28," he said at parliament lobby today.
The election committee, chaired by deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, is expected to hold its meeting tomorrow. Both Chew and Wee are in the committee.
