GEORGE TOWN: The war of words between Penang Gerakan and Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng continued today with Lim being called unprincipled and inconsistent in his stand.

Penang Gerakan assistant secretary Goh Kheng Sneah said when Singapore Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew visited Penang in June, Lim had compared Penang and Singapore in terms of development.

"However, when we said that under the Barisan Nasional-led government, Penang traditionally competed with Singapore for investments in the manufacturing sector, Lim said Gerakan was living on a different planet and that it was Malaysia which was competing with the island republic, and not Penang," said Goh in a statement.

Goh said by his logic, the Lim-led state government was also living on a different planet, because he and other DAP leaders like Jeff Ooi and Danny Law had always compared Penang with Singapore in terms of development to discredit the previous BN-led state government.

"Is Lim saying Penang should not compete with Singapore for investments? What is his benchmark then?" asked Goh.

Goh accused that Lim had the habit of making contradictions in his speeches, at his whims and fancies and to suit his own taste.
