PETALING JAYA: In a rare but important show of unity, Youth movements from both sides of the political divide have blasted the desecration of the two mosques in Taman Dato Harun and Taman Seri Sentosa.

Sixteen youth bodies from the Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalitions issued a joint statement to criticise the wild boar heads incidents on Wednesday and other attacks at places of worship over the past three weeks.

The statement was released on Rembau member of parliament and BN Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin’s website rembau.net.

"Any attack or form of vandalism against any houses of worship cannot be defended," the statement read.

The statement went on to describe such acts as being excessive, despicable, cowardly and against all religious values held dearly by Malaysians.

"We call on all Malaysians to remain calm and not to react based on emotions.

"We also call on the authorities to focus all their efforts to apprehend those responsible for the desecration. It is crucial that investigations be conducted free from any form of pressure," said the youth movements.

According to the statement, the issue crosses all religious, political and racial divides.

"When it comes to threats against the nation and our identities as Malaysians, we are prepared to set aside our political differences to defend the stability of the nation."

The statement was signed by youth wings from Umno, MCA, MIC, Gerakan, PPP, PBB, SUPP, SPDP, PRS, PBS, Upko, PBRS, LDP, PKR, DAP and PAS.

On Wednesday, wild boar heads were found in the compounds of Masjid Jumburiyah in Taman Dato Harun and Masjid Al-Iman Al-Tirmizi in Taman Seri Sentosa.

Alongside the sacks of severed heads were two buckets containing 30 RM1 notes.
