KUALA LUMPUR: Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, who claims he was sodomised by opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, today lodged a police report after purportedly receiving a death threat made on popular social networking site Facebook.

Saiful, who is the prosecution's first witness in the sodomy trial, said he was notified of the death threat yesterday morning in an email from an unknown person.

According to Saiful, the email was sent to inform him of the threat and came attached with a screen capture of a purported posting on Anwar's Facebook fan page.

The screen shot revealed a comment left by someone claiming to be" Anaz Zahari", who allegedly wrote in Bahasa Malaysia, "To all friends, whoever knows or meets Saiful Bukhari Azlan anywhere, you are obliged to kill him using any method for the sake of mankind's peace."

Saiful said he was informed by his friends that the Facebook user, Anaz Zahari, had apparently deleted the comment soon after.

When asked, Saiful said this was the first time he had received a threat against his life but revealed that his family's home in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya also appeared to have been targeted.

Saiful, who was accompanied to the police station by his father Azlan Mohd Lazim and lawyer Zamri Idrus, said he had found rotten fruit thrown into his car porch during the last two days which he said resembled objects used in black magic.

"I state that this is a death threat against me and this is a serious threat. I worry for the safety of my family and myself," Saiful told reporters after lodging the police report in Sentul district police station here.

Azlan also said that he had lodged a police report on Feb 1 after receiving more than 50 text messages from unknown persons, which he said were "intended to provoke".

Azlan however did not reveal more details on the text messages and his police report.

When asked, Saiful declined to comment on the various delays in Anwar's sodomy trial, merely reiterating, "I'm ready for cross-examination."

"I urge everyone to be patient. The proceedings have not completed yet. Don't be too engrossed in the trial," Saiful said.

Saiful last week gave evidence as the prosecution's first witness against his former employer.

The 24-year-old had alleged that Anwar had sodomised him on June 26, 2008, at the Desa Damansara condominium in Bukit Damansara here.

The former deputy prime minister pleaded not guilty to one charge of sodomy and is now standing trial.
