Pakatan Rakyat to halt publication of party organs

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Rakyat (PR) has decided to temporarily halt the publishing of its three party's organs pending a meeting with the home ministry on the matter, opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said on Wednesday, July 14.

The three political parties in the PR coalition each publish its own newspaper - Harakah (PAS), Suara Keadilan (PKR) and Rocket (DAP). The three party newspapers have landed into trouble with the Home Ministry in the recent weeks for various reasons.

Anwar told reporters that PR would meet again next week to review their decision to suspend the publication of the party newsletters, pending a meeting with Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

"The parties have answered all show cause letters (issued by) the ministry. We also request that the meeting with the home minister (Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein) be expedited ...

"He (Hishammuddin) should give space to avoid portraying Malaysia as practicing autocracy and iron fist rule," Anwar told a press conference after chairing PR's leadership meeting on Wednesday.
