He said the projects were progressing on schedule as planned by the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA). Some of the programmes that have started include the upgrading of certain roads, upgrading of the Kuala Perlis ferry terminal and a digital information centre in Taiping. On Sime Darby Bhd's role in the NCER, Amirsham who was answering a question by Dr Puad Zarkashi (Batu Pahat-BN), said it was to spearhead the master plan. However, Sime Darby is also involved in other programmes through its investment in a few projects as part of its corporate social responsibility activities. He also said of the RM24 billion investment from the private sector in NCER for the duration under the Ninth Malaysian Plan (9MP), Sime Darby had committed RM8 billion. To a supplementary question by Lim Guan Eng (Bagan-DAP) on the allocation of RM1.7 billion to Iskandar Malaysia announced in the mini-budget on Tuesday but no amount was set aside for NCER, Amirsham said the investment focus differed from corridor to corridor. "Iskandar Malaysia's main investment focus is on real estate and tourism while NCER's focus is to modernise agriculture. NCIA's focus in Penang is on human resources through building of education and training institutions," he said.
