Spat over Khir’s mansion gets 'legal'

SHAH ALAM: The verbal crossfire over former Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo’s multi-million ringgit mansion soon could move to the courts when Khir apparently attempted to serve Sekinchan assemblyman Ng Suee Lim legal papers today.

Ng (Sekinchan-DAP) told reporters he was approached at the state assembly building here at about 12.30pm today by Khir’s lawyer’s aide, who had intended to serve him legal documents.

Ng, a second-term assemblyman, said he turned away the documents and asked the aide to leave because the state assembly was "not the appropriate place" to serve legal papers.

"This august house cannot be tainted by legal suits of this sort. I am not afraid. We are ready to face any legal action," Ng told a press conference at the state assembly lobby today.

When asked, Ng said he did not know the contents of the documents but would write to Khir to seek an alternative place for the documents to be served.

Yesterday, Khir (Sungai Panjang-BN) threatened a defamation suit against Ng over the latter’s allegations that the Selangor opposition leader had spent some RM24 million on a Balinese-styled home in Section 7, Shah Alam.

Khir, a dentist by profession, maintained the mansion was purchased on a RM3.5 million bank loan and was well within his means.

Meanwhile, Ng’s lawyer M Manoharan (Kota Alam Shah-DAP) said they also were considering to file a counter-claim against Khir "if (Khir) has defamed Ng in any way".

Manoharan said he learned that Khir was also seeking to sue another person over the allegations, but did not have any further details.

Verbal exchanges over Khir’s luxury home dominated Monday’s state assembly sitting when Ng alleged Khir’s house was worth some RM24 million and was built on two plots of land measuring more than 50,000 sq ft.
