"Don't blame others for your mistakes and failures. As the Malay saying goes, when you point a finger at others, remember the other four fingers are pointing at you, too. "Look at yourself first before you say others are ungrateful. "We should not be asking the people to be grateful to us the elected representatives, it should be we who should be grateful to them for electing us. "The people are the masters, not those whom they elect. "When politicians think they are masters, then it is no longer a democracy but a dictatorship. "This is the difference between the PR and BN principles," Lim said at a press conference where he gave out RM1.5 million in aid to 17 Islamic religious schools and received RM50,000 in donations for the state's hardcore poverty programme from the Penang Council of Datuks. Lim also clarified that the state government had no plans to raise the water tariffs for consumers. He said during the World Water Day on Sunday, he had said that the state government was looking at penalising those who used water excessively. Currently, Penangites use water way above the national average. Each Penangite uses 285 litres of water per day, the highest in the country. "I did not say we were going to increase the rates, but we are looking at those who use water excessively. "We are looking at a formula for a penalty for those who use more than 257 litres of water per person per day," he added. Lim said since Penang did not have its own water resources, and had to bank on supply from the Muda River in Kedah, Penangites must heed the state government's call to conserve water or the state government would have to spend more money on build reservoirs and dams to store enough water. "We want to be No 1 in everything, except in this aspect of being tops in water consumption. "Having the cheapest water rates does not give us the right to waste precious water supply, which will face shortage globally soon," he added.
