KUALA LUMPUR: Suspended Puchong member of parliament Gobind Singh Deo said his status as member of parliament was "in limbo" based on the wording of his suspension notice.

Gobind was speaking to reporters after filing a suit at the Kuala Lumpur High Court today against Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, the Dewan Rakyat secretary, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz and the Malaysian government over Gobind's 12-month suspension from parliament.

Gobind, a first-term MP, was suspended from parliament with immediate effect for 12 months without perks and allowances following a motion passed via voice vote on March 16.

According to Gobind, the Dewan Rakyat secretary had issued a letter informing Gobind of his suspension as member of parliament and would raise the issue of the notice's wording when proceedings commenced.

Gobind said he had gathered from the debate on the motion tabled by Nazri on March 16 that he was only being suspended from the Dewan Rakyat, adding that the motion was also worded in a manner that his suspension as an MP was sought.

"You can suspend a person from the House (under) the Standing Orders but to suspend me as a member of parliament, where does that leave me?

"As far as I'm concerned I still am (an elected representative) because the people voted me in and that position remains," Gobind said.
