KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 8): EXIM Bank has appointed Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Bhd (MIDF) group managing director Datuk Charon Wardini Mokhzani as its new chairman.

In a statement on Monday, the bank said Charon will be succeeding Datuk Azman Mahmud, who ended his term late last year following his appointment to the role on Oct 4, 2021.

Notably, Charon also previously held leadership positions which include founding CEO of Khazanah Research Institute, executive director of Khazanah Nasional Bhd, deputy CEO of CIMB Group, CEO of CIMB Investment Bank Bhd, chairman of CIMB-Principal Asset Management Bhd (now Principal Asset Management Berhad) and managing partner of Zaid Ibrahim & Co.

He currently serves on the boards of Yayasan Tuanku Fauziah, Yayasan Tuanku Syed Putra Perlis, and the Kuala Lumpur Business Club, and was on the board of Universiti Putra Malaysia.

“We are delighted to announce the appointment of Datuk Charon Wardini Mokhzani as our new chairman of the board," said EXIM Bank president and CEO Arshad Ismail.

“His extensive experience will be an invaluable asset as we navigate the dynamic business landscape.

“We look forward to collaborating with Datuk Charon to leverage his expertise, not only in steering our company towards new heights but also enhancing the role of EXIM Bank Malaysia as a development finance institution,” Arshad said.

Charon is a chartered banker and a fellow of the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers, and a non-practicing barrister of the Middle Temple and advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.

He read philosophy, politics and economics at Balliol College, University of Oxford, law at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, and was called to the degree of the Utter Bar at the Middle Temple.
